Memorial contains a report (6 handwritten pages) to "the Regents of the Lunatic Asylum" by Dr. J. W. Parker, superintendent of the South Carolina Lunatice Asylum in Columbia, concerning the condition of the patients and the facility. A prefatory letter from the president of the Board of Regents transmits the report to the South Carolina House of Representatives, and notes Dr. Parker's "able and humane management" and "the skillful and kind treatment of the Physician Dr. Trezevant to the Patients." Report also includes an account of "The Receipts and Disbursements of the Lunatic Asylum" for 1847-1848.
